Pencil on paper. 14 × 8 cm (5 ½ × 3 ⅛ in.). Signed and dated lower right: Menzel / 70. Inscribed lower left: Prof. Koch im Kostum[!] seiner Orientreisen. Inscribed on the reverse at the bottom: bei Josty Zufallskehrseite / nicht zu beachten. Catalogue raisonné: Accompanied by a certificate (in copy) by Marie Ursula Riemann-Reyher, Berlin, dated 6 July 2003. Drawing from the sketchbook no. 35 of 1870 (today Kupferstichkabinett Berlin), formerly between pages 19 and 20 (later paginated) and presumably cut out by the artist himself. Slightly stained.
